EnviroTower to Demonstrate Energy and Water Reduction Benefits with Leading Global Auto Manufacturer
EnviroTower to Receive Clean Tech Funding from Sustainabile Development Technology Canada for $2.2 Million Project
For Immediate Release
TORONTO --- November 8, 2007 --- EnviroTower is pleased to announce that Sustainable Development Technology Canada (SDTC) will support the demonstration of EnviroTower’s cooling tower treatment system with participation from a leading global auto manufacturing organization. The EnviroTower initiative is part of SDTC’s latest round of funding for the development and demonstration of clean technologies that deliver economic, environmental and health benefits. Private sector investment contributions are also involved. Details of the SDTC project can be found here: http://www.sdtc.ca/en/news/media_releases/Projects_Rd11.htm.
The project will confirm the effectiveness of EnviroTower’s cooling tower treatment system in providing a reliable, effective and more economical alternative to traditional chemical water treatment for cooling systems for the industrial market sector. The project will advance the company’s technology by developing and demonstrating an innovative real-time process control system and adaptation of existing patented electrostatic water treatment technology for larger, more demanding industrial cooling water applications.
“Industrial cooling systems consume enormous amounts of costly energy and water.” said Murray McCaig, CEO of EnviroTower. “EnviroTower has proven that it can deliver significant energy, water and overall cost savings to commercial markets. This initiative will further validate the effectiveness and reliability of our product, allowing us to gain a strong foothold in the $10 billion industrial market.”
Industries such as auto manufacturing use a number of processes that generate heat. Cooling water is used to transfer heat away from these processes and to protect production equipment. This water must then be treated to control factors such as mineral scale, fouling and corrosion – factors which increase energy consumption and reduce the effectiveness and lifecycle of equipment. Control has conventionally been achieved through chemical treatments, which have limited effectiveness and adverse effects on the environment.
“EnviroTower’s unique system could provide industrial facilities with the opportunity to significantly reduce their energy and water consumption, while improving wastewater quality,” said Vicky J. Sharpe, President and CEO of SDTC. “Should the EnviroTower project be successful, it will improve the economic performance and environmental impact of manufacturing and industrial facilities in Canada and around the world.”
The SDTC funding, subject to successful contract negotiation, will assist in bringing to market a solution that enables industrial facilities to reduce energy and water consumption, reduce the risk of process interruption, improve operator safety and reduce chemical discharges to the environment. The project partner will install the EnviroTower demonstration system and contribute their expertise in cooling applications to provide input throughout the demonstration project.
